I have a crafts fair coming up on Nov. 18, so I have been adding hats to inventory. I decided to try some dirt-simple Fair Isle type patterns this year, with chunky yarn so they knit up fast. Mostly it's been ordinary geometric Fair Isle patterns

ordinary hats that will probably sell well

but then I got struck by a burst of inspiration, and here's what I got done this evening :

how Goth is this hat?

No, it's not done yet - it's still on the circular needle. Hey, getting this far took less than 2 hours including thinking up and charting the pattern - yes, it's my own design, although I suspect that it has been done many times before and I could have found it out there on the Web - but I didn't, I charted it myself.

For you knitters, here's a close-up of it, if you want to count the stitches so you can copy it - ha! Fair Isle skull pattern

I wonder if anyone will buy it.

That's fantastic! :)

I absolutely love the other hats. Do you take commissions? :)

Sure do, but remember, postage from here to your neck of the woods is going to be as much as the hat itself - especially if you want one for a Christmas present or something soonish like that. It's $12 for the hat and anywhere from $10 to $20 postage - probably $11 or $12, at a guess.

You would need to tell me what two colors, whether or not sheep's wool yarn is OK (some people are allergic), and whether it's for a man, woman, or child, along with which of those designs you'd want.

More than 2 colors of yarn (that multicolored one in the white hat is one yarn that happens to be multi - that counts as one color), or ear flaps, tassels, and other doodads, costs extra.

And if no one possesses the good taste to buy it, may I be so bold as to suggest a possible Solstice gift for V? He'd look good in it 8-D - Chas

Those are awesome! I wish I could knit. I've tried to learn and failed many times. I can crochet...but its not the same.

I could teach you, if you ever happen to be closer to here. I can teach *anyone* to knit. Honest.

You can get the same effect in crochet - tapestry crochet, they call it. It does eat up a lot more yarn, though!
