I still can't spend too long doing stuff like typing. And I can't reach the top shelf of the fridge, or any of the upper kitchen cabinets. 'Bout the highest I can reach my arms is so that the upper arm is about 10 degrees below horizontal/perpendicular to body at shoulder. The elbows are working better, though. And my wrists are pretty well recovered from the damn IVs.
But I got some crocheting done this evening, and caught up on all the newspapers from last week, while S was at rehearsal. And spent a while on the phone - now there's something tiring on the elbows! - making every single follow-up appointment I need for the next week and a half. Whee.
The visiting nurse is very nice. Today, she just watched while S did the change on my IV pump. She did the surgery site dressing, S took notes, and tomorrow he gets to try that under her supervision. She was actually MUCH gentler about it than they were in the hospital.
I'm still quite hesitant about going out anywhere, not because of the pump - that's manageable - but because: what if I trip and fall? If I use my arms to catch myself, I'll damage things. If I don't, I'll damage things. And I do, in fact, trip and fall perhaps more often than usual - the bifocals and complete lack of peripheral vision contribute to that, but also I've been a frequent stumbler over my own feet all my life. So, I am scared to go outside. I suppose I could use a walker or a wheelchair, except that there's nothing in my medical condition that would justify that; certainly insurance wouldn't pay for it, plus, based on some past experiences with temporarily using a wheelchair when I have injured a leg or foot, I absolutely hate the way people treat anyone in a wheelchair.
Whine, whine. Anyway, by Thursday I'll have to go out, since I have a doctor's appointment. So my horizons will expand a bit and I may even be able to write something witty. Stay tuned.
That was too much typing; my shoulders ache.
