Trader Joe's had bags of frozen avocado halves, and I was missing avocados, so I bought a bag. Ugh. Defrosted frozen avocados are green. Other than that, they bear no resemblance in taste, odor, or texture, to real avocados. Oh well.

Finished reading:
Consolation for an Exile - Caroline Roe - latest in the Isaac of Girona series
Fiddlers - Ed McBain - 87th Precinct Series; rather predictable
Thud - Terry Pratchett - not his funniest, nor cleverest, but even mediocre Pratchett is funny

Decided I wasn't in the mood for:
Straight into Darkness - Faye Kellerman - set in 1920's Germany, not part of her series. I decided I don't feel like reading something that dark.

Um. Good to get back into the regular band rehearsals at Bel Air, after a snow week and a holiday week. Now I must return to dentist to get my crown affixed. Royal teeth, that's me.

We buy TJs frozen avocadoes to make guac or (more often) omelettes.

I suppose if you're gonna mash them and cook them, then the texture issue isn't as much of an issue. But it still didn't *taste* like avocado to me. (I was making sliced avocado and swiss cheese sandwiches.)

There's not that all much I miss from Austin, but do you think you could bring Curra's (on Oltorf, near school) and maybe Magnolia Cafe from South Congress along with you when you move? I sure miss those two places.

I like the Trader Joe's guacamole (which freezes well), but I didn't really like their frozen avocados either.

Damn I miss Trader Joe's.

Not one near you? Urbpan has them up in Boston.

Yeah, well Boston is a real city.

West Hartford has a new one, but that's an hour or so away. But the Willi Food Coop just moved into their new digs, and they sure are snazzy. Of course, they're twice as expensive as TJ's. Sigh.

halves ?

:P ppphhhhttthhhhh

I can see halving them and removing the giant pit but I think they would have retained more of their texture if they had left the skin on.

I agree absolutely. I got a copy of Where's My Cow and had to read it to my five year old at least 18 times in a row. She runs around the house now yelling, "Millenium Hand and Shrimp!!"

At least she's not yelling the rest of Foul Ol' Ron's vocabulary!!

I'd never run across frozen avocados before. I suppose this would be why.

I'm gonna say that year-round fresh avocados is one of the few things I miss about Austin. Specifically avocados in breakfast tacos at Curra's. And in the Flamingo sandwich at Magnolia Cafe.
