1. I've had actual visible grey hairs at my temples for about a month now. I know no one else my age is going to feel at all sympathetic. I still feel like whining about it, though.
2. There really isn't any way to clean up a mess of cords from computers to the wall outlet if the computers are laptops which are sitting on a dining table in the center of the dining room.
3. Lately I have been feeling an odd sort of pride in how much stuff I don't care about. Like curtains. Why bother? It strikes me that this is probably really monumental laziness.
4. The only way to *really* have enough counter space in a kitchen is to have a continuously renewing counter; I'm not clear on the details of what happens to the old counters as it produces new counter space for the next step in one's preparations.

grey hairs and self-renewing counters

I think you're right. I feel no sympathy for the grey hair thing. On the other hand, I really love what my hair is doing as I get older - sort of silvering.

I think the countertop renewal would be like those old fabric hand towels in restrooms - the ones where you pull down to get a "clean" section of the towel, but the old dirty towel is pulled up into the thingy.

Yeah, yeah, but what about all the stuff that's ON the counter - the dirty mixing bowls, the stuff that lives permanently on the counter like that mug full of pens and pencils, the trivets... how do we keep them from gumming up the towel thingy?

They fall on the floor and make a mess?
Oh wait, that's not a good thing.

You get a cat and they knock that stuff off?

I know! Double decker!

re #2 : Computer cords

I have a friend with a simialr problem in his bedroom - plugs on one side of the room, computers elsewhere - and he has bought one of flexible dryer vent hoses and run the cables through them. It was cheap and effective albeit not too beautiful. But the cat can't chew on them and so long as he's had fewer that four beer he won't trip over them. After four beer he trips over dust, or so it seems.

That would work if it were just cords, but it actually includes a power strip and a couple of power bricks that won't fit inside the dryer hose, and a separate cord going off to the printer and the one from the computer to the printer, so there's extra hose - probably we'd need so many pieces of hose, even one beer would do it for tripping over. But hmm, just talking about it, I begin to see how we could rearrange things a bit, and possibly make things work. Thank you!!!

You need one of those outlets in the middle of the floor :)

It's the gray hair in other places that's starting to disturb me!

And, fwiw, our house is warmer now that the curtains are up. And I can walk around nekkid if I want to. And the streetlight doesn't shine in on our bed.

grey hair in other places...

Hey, I've had visible grey hairs around my temples since age 24.

Well, my mom didn't have any grey hair when she passed away at 72, and I guess I was expecting my hair to be the same; it's just a bit of a disappointment to me that it's not. I was counting on getting away with looking only 40 for a few more years. Darn!

Well, at least you have hair. Although, well, the couple of my hairs that do remain are also grey, if not white :-)
