And now comes news that the Harford County schools are closed on Monday, so the Bel Air Community Band will not have a rehearsal this evening. As the email from the band honcho says, wimps!

So anyway, here's that sock I've been nattering on about. You can see why it finished up so quickly - it's DK yarn rather than sock weight, and has a short cuff. That's partly because I haven't made a DK sock before, so I wasn't sure what length cuff the yardage would be sufficient for. The pictures do not adequately show the little sparkle in the yarn. It's Cherry Tree Hill Glitz, in, I think, Birches colorway (can't find the label at the moment), and it's superwash merino wool.

The garter stitch short-row heel is remarkably easy to do on 12" circular needles (#4 US), which is what I used; I only switched to dp needles for the toe (and the graft on the toe came out as sloppy as my toes always do, but that's OK, the recipient will have shoes.) The cuff is a 3/3 rib. No, this is not a particularly sophisticated sock. What it is, is the fastest sock I've ever finished - that's what makes it really noteworthy. Socks on #1 or #2 needles with sock yarn tend to take me a couple of months to finish.

So I'll start on the second one today. And if I finish it rapidly, perhaps I'll go back and redo the toe graft on this one.

I got my circular needles today. Am now going to try to do the socks on circular needles thing. My socks will probably look like something the dog killed.
