It occurred to me after the meme of a couple of posts ago, that I probably have far more than one book that no one else on my flist has. So here's something for the bookish to pass around - I'll post it in the BC community as well.

And just to be perverse, I won't even include the book I put in the earlier meme, the Actuarial Mathematics and I won't put in any of the books that only have one or two pages of text and the rest are just classical musical scores (I have a really nice leather-bound edition, from Russia, in Russian, of Khatchaturian's 2nd and 3rd Symphonies, for example.)

And of course, the big idea is, if you actually have one of these, ding me on it - it's a way for weirdo geeks of obscure subjects to spot each other!

Ten books I own that I'm pretty sure no one else on my flist has:
  1. Killer Bunnies by Charles Bordin
  2. Antiworlds and The Fifth Ace by Andrei Voznesensky
  3. The Dirty Song Book by Jerry Silverman
  4. Shanties from the Seven Seas by Stan Hugill (OK, [livejournal.com profile] telynor might have this one)
  5. Exotic Animal Formulary by Carpenter et al.
  6. A Field Guide to Little-Known and Seldom-Seen Birds of North America by Ben, Cathryn and John Sill
  7. The Devouring Fungus by Karla Jennings
  8. How to Raise Your IQ by Eating Gifted Children by Lewis Burke Frumkes
  9. On Difficulty and Other Essays by George Steiner (possibly [livejournal.com profile] stylizedboredom or [livejournal.com profile] angevin2?)
  10. Underground by David Macauley

If you'd like more info about any of these books, just ask.

I don't own any of those, sad to say. Haven't even read any of them. But the title How to Raise Your IQ by Eating Gifted Children made me laugh out loud.

And I'm intrigued by Exotic Animal Formulary. And The Devouring Fungus. Goodness.

The first one's a veterinary textbook that's invaluable to owners of guinea pigs, rabbits, hedgehogs, etc. The second one is actually computer humor.

I replied to the BC post too, but I'm going to reply here just so I can tell you that I'd like to add you to my friends list. Hope you don't mind. Since you're one of the few Bookcrossers I've actually met in person (at the Texas Book Festival a few years ago), it'd be nice to have you on my list. :-)

Oh, and I'm the one with the David Macauley books. I also have The Way Things Work (not the newest one though).

Oh, and I don't have Killer Bunnies, but I did run a book ray for The Book of Bunny Suicides. :-)

Hee hee, I gave that one to a friend; did you know there's a second volume out now? Yes, it is possible for that guy to get sicker...

It's poetry - bilingual Russian/English. I took a little bit of Russian way back in college and still try occasionally to see if I remember a few words.

I finally got ahold of the newest edition of Exotic Animal Formulary over the summer. I love that book.

It's great, isn't it? I have the previous edition - can't quite afford the new one...
