After a late supper at IHOP around the corner - yes, we live one block from an IHOP, although it's only 24-hours on weekends - here we are at the computers counting down the minutes. We are not "doing anything" for New Years - I think being here and alive is enough. We saw family earlier this week, ran into some of our new acquaintances to chat and say happy new year today, and will have a band rehearsal Monday night - that's quite enough partying for us. We're starting the new year off with:
S's new car, purchased a few weeks ago
my new bike, purchased two months ago
this old house :D purchased three months ago
Lots of new stuff already, in other words, so the new year is a tad anticlimactic.
One of my New Years Resolutions is to write more interesting first sentences in my posts, so that when I do "2006 in Review" in December it looks more interesting. There's the traditional "lose 10 pounds" resolution, and the "get organized" traditional resolution. I think it's also time for a "don't buy any yarn unless you finish a project" resolution; I really need to at least establish equilibrium if not reduce the yarn content of the house.
Things we look forward to in the new month:
our friends
landley and
fadethecat moving up north to Pennsylvania, where they will be only a few hours away from us, sometime in the next few weeks;
another trip up to my sister's place just north of Philly, for her new baby's christening, in a couple of weeks - and I'll unload one of the crochet projects for that, a baby afghan, which will mean I can buy more yarn!
we have loaded the Smithsonian's locations into S's GPS unit, and one of our other New Year's resolutions is to make it down there ASAP, since the Smithsonian was one of the reasons for our moving up here in the first place;
an appointment with my cardiologist on the 9th, to go over the results of my MUGA and decide whether I need surgery to finally implant the third lead of my pacemaker. That may not sound exactly like "fun" but it is important and could have a big effect on my projected lifespan and all that kind o' semi-important stuff.
For right this minute, I'm going back to work on the buffalo plaid baby afghan which has me working with 6 balls of yarn attached to the piece at once - it was an experiment and I'm never going to do it again, I'll tell you, but I will finish up this one. I'll admit it's a nice effect, but if you've ever wondered whether there's something worse than trying to crochet or knit with a cat on your lap, the answer is yes, there is: trying to keep 6 skeins of yarn disentangled without the help of said cat.
Happy New Year to all, and may this year bring you at the very least, decent health, adequate employment, enjoyable recreation, and peace.

Date: 2006-01-01 06:13 pm (UTC)I have, incidentally, been practicing that "crochet a chain of sc" bit you mentioned, in preparation for making a hat. So far it's a rather messy sc chain, but an sc chain it is. I have moderately high hopes for hatness soon.

Date: 2006-01-01 11:04 pm (UTC)I so look forward to seeing you. And Rob. Among other reasons, people who pay attention when there is new funny music to be heard. We couldn't get anybody nearby to shut up and LISTEN to some of our new CDs. Not for even one single verse of a funny song! Not even for one verse of a funny song they asked to hear.
