Ack! The cost of recovering a hard disk

The data recovery service had said that their price range was "$400 to $2400" and if mine was as simple as it sounded, it would be toward the low end of that. However, now that they've received it and reviewed what it would take to get all the data, the actual quote is $1100. Ack! I know there's 400 worth of my life on that disk; I have to seriously think about whether there's $1100 worth.
Why, some of you are asking, didn't you have all that backed up? Well, you may recall, we moved recently. We spent a couple months before the move packing, not really thinking hard about regular computer back-ups so much as about throwing stuff in boxes. Then we moved. And then we landed in an apartment where we couldn't unpack much of our stuff, and even if we could, would we want to, knowing we'd be moving again in a few months once we found a house? So, we don't even know where our external back up drives are - the tape drive, the USB hard disk, etc. And so...
Meanwhile. This means that while I am trying to figure out if we've got $1100 to spare, I am without certain things. Like addresses. Most of my email was stored on there, so the only email addresses I have saved are people who are on AOL and the people who have written me email within the past two weeks, and the very few people whose email I entered in my PDA. So - I need the rest of y'all's email addies. Please email me - at any of my email addresses that you know, bunrab at aol, bunrab at bunrab, etc - with your email addy AND your snail mail addy.
Especially those of you who have moved recently!!! I need your new snail addresses!! Yes, this means you, Liz. And you too, Chas. As well as your email addresses, please send me your snail addresses AND your phone numbers. PLEASE!!!
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
Fried Disk/Fried Brain
