Jul. 8th, 2005 01:24 pmThe overwhelming winner in the "musical cliches for the 4th of july" poll is Armed Forces Salute. Not surprising to me, or to other band members, and at the same time, those of you who don't go to bandshell concerts are probably going "huh?" If you attend big orchestra concerts - on the Lower Colorado with the Austin Symphony, or the Charles with the Boston Symphony - then you expect the 1812 and you don't really think much about the rest. Orchestra concerts are different. Whether Austin or Boston, there undoubtedly would be a John Williams piece somewhere in your orchestra concert. Different set of cliches for orchestra...
