Welcome to Tennessee: Lane Shifts Ahead
Welcome to Virginia: Speed Limits Enforced by Aircraft
Welcome to Maryland: Right Lane Ends

Several cities have similar mottoes - they're on at least one sign per mile, and on all the signs entering the city. For example, when I lived in Boston, I actually lived in a separate town, surrounded on 3 sides by Boston, called Brookline-No-Overnight-Parking. That's what all the signs said: "Entering Brookline No Overnight Parking." And San Francisco's city motto is clearly "Left Turn Prohibited" - they have a sign announcing that roughly every single block.

I was reminded of all this because we drove down to my brother Gene's wedding in the southern part of Maryland - the part that's south of Washington DC, about a 45 minute drive for us. Sure enough, the "Right Lane Ends" signs are on Route 5 and Route 223 down there the same as they are on all the state and local roads around here. Nice wedding; Jen seems nice, and I guess, since we now live closest to them, we'll get to see more of them and I'll get to know her better. By the way, nephews to whom I mentioned my blog, if you're reading this, hi!!

Anyway, we have to hit the road early tomorrow - need to be in Montgomery Village by 9 AM to form up for the 10 AM parade, followed by 11 AM concert. Then home for a couple of hours nap, then off to Bel Air to get there by 5, before they close the streets off, for their parade around 6:30, followed by a concert at 8:30-ish. Whee! So I am off to crash into bed. Need my sleep! We're gonna be playing "Stars and Stripes Forever" till our lips fall off!

Wow!

Do you play an instrument in an adult amaeteur band or are you in a military band? Which instrument?

You can answer me off the site if you like. Email me, if you like. I'd like to correspond with other musicians.

adult community band (not quite right to call it amateur, since many such band members are retired military musicians, school band directors/music teachers looking for a chance to play, etc.)

We played in the Austin Symphonic Band for 23 years.

I play tenor and bari sax; Spousal Unit plays tuba.

In fact, we met in the band, a long story in itself.

I love corresponding with fellow musicians too - feel free to email me! I've also got a somewhat moribund LJ group, [livejournal.com profile] community_band, which we could use to chatter about music and maybe even generate some more interest!
