car insurance band rehearsal dining room
Jun. 28th, 2005 05:55 pmSo yesterday (Monday) we found a state farm agent a mile from the apartment, transferred our auto insurance from TX to MD, as well as the addresses for our personal articles policy and our umbrella liability policy. We have to keep homeowners on the house in TX till it sells. We also had to get renters' insurance for this apt. We ate at a restaurant next to the agent's, a place called Eggspectation. Review: they think far too highly of themselves. Everything on the menu is expensive. It's nice food but it's just sandwiches and omelettes, for pete's sake. Paper napkins. Charging $9 for a burger at a place that is in a shopping center and has paper napkins and people wearing flip-flops is just silly. And there is no cup of iced tea in the First World worth $2.29. (During a drought in a third world country without air conditioning, yeah, I'd pay that much for tea.) Prices aside, the grilled tomatoes and the sliced fried potatoes served with the eggs are quite good. But, prices not aside, we're never going there again.
Last night we went to a rehearsal of the other band we're joining, the Bel-Air Community Band. It's a larger group, and been around longer, than the Montgomery Village Community Band. We felt at home instantly. We will be playing with both bands for 4th of July: Montgomery Village in the AM, Bel Air in the PM. When you think about it, it's not any further apart than the gigs the Austin Symphonic Band do for the 4th, in Bastrop and in Round Rock. I had worn one of my chocolate-themed t-shirts, from a visit to San Francisco with my brother JJ, and that got instant approval, with band members dragging other band members over specifically to read the t-shirt. It's always nice to meet people with kindred senses of humor.
I have located a yarn shop in Columbia - in an industrial park, very weird, not easy to find. And closed on Tuesdays. Sheesh. Also spotted one in Ellicott City, but S wouldn't stop as we went by.
I have successfully given away some stuff on freecycle here already. Met a couple nice people, too! And disposed of several books into the apartment complex's lending library, a/k/a a large bookshelf in the computer center. The bookshelf already held mostly mysteries with some SF, some romance, and a few serious things, so our contributions fit right in.
Today's mission inside the apartment has been achieved: we now have a dining table, computers on dining table, chairs that we can pull up to table. And in the animal room, we have clear space on floor, which we have covered with cheap play rugs so that buns can hop around without destroying apartment carpeting. I got 4 of the 7 cages cleaned today, should be able to get the other 3 done tomorrow, now that there's room to move around in there. Gizmo was happy to try out the new play space; Fred's still suspicious. Tomorrow Fern and the chinnies will get to try it.
Let's see - tomorrow night is MVCB rehearsal, Thursday we have an appointment with a Realtor to look at a couple of houses, and Friday morning our mattress will be delivered, for which my back gives hearty thanks. And it is beginning to do some serious thundering outside; we've had showers every day, which means that even when it does get up to a whopping 87 degrees during the day, it cools off again really fast. No rain yet this evening, just noise, but it's a LOT of noise.

I miss band.
