Say goodbye to Ethel Bun
May. 24th, 2005 03:56 pmEthel Bun, one of the Puffalumps, passed away yesterday. Sunday morning she was fine; Sunday evening she ignored her dried cranberry, and Monday morning she was gone. She appears to have died painlessly in her sleep. She was an elderly bun, with cataracts in both eyes. Although Fred and Ethel had the names of a "couple" they were mother and son. Ethel is the bun on the left in this icon, the slightly paler one.
Fred seems to be doing OK. He had a while to sit with her body before we removed it.
We are moving soon; we will bury Ethel beneath a tree here, but there won't be time to make up a headstone for her. We will know she's there, though, and the tree will know she's there.
In a way, I'm glad she passed away before the move - this way we know the stress of moving won't be the cause. Now all we have to worry about is Chili Chinchilla, who is 14, elderly for a chin. He is showing signs of his age - eating a little less, losing some weight, sleeping more - although he's still a fireball when he is awake! Everybody else is fine - we have two other older pets, Pickle cat at 14 and The Beak, an 18 year old cockatiel, but both of them are showing no signs of their age whatsoever.
We are sad, but we knew she was elderly (we don't know her exact age; we've had these two buns for about 5 years, they were already adults when we rescued them.) Fred loved to groom her, and occasionally she would return the favor. She was fond of tossing toys around at 3 AM. We will miss her.

Date: 2005-05-26 08:11 pm (UTC)No, Gizmo does not get along with other buns well enough - he and Fred have a mortal feud going. I might try introducing him to Fern, though...
Call me, will ya? You know your hours better than I do. We are officially retired at this point, so we're free for things like late evenings on weeknights, if that's when you have time. Supper!! I want to serve mushroom ravioli!!
