Whew. Friday, I got a couple of students to come over and help us move a few big items - we moved our sofa and end table to storage, three bookcases to Anita & Dana's storage, and the rest of the critters downstairs.
Saturday, we made new trays for most of the cages, and cleaned almost all of them.
Sunday, we emptied the giant bookcase, the one that's 7'8" high by 8'2" wide, of all books, put into boxes in more or less alphabetical order and labelled, even, and unscrewed said giant bookcase from wall. We also removed a bunch of other stuff from the walls of the library.
So today, the painters are working on the library. This has, of course, meant moving more stuff around, and throwing tarps over it. And that, of course, means more stuff I can't find. AUGH!
However, the light at the end of the tunnel is visible. This is the last full room that needs doing; they should be finished by tomorrow, and then all that's left for the contractors is a punch list of little items.
What's left for us is moving all the rest of the little things still all over the upstairs, to downstairs, so that the carpet people can put down the carpet. We had removed all the big furniture, but there were still little bookcases and boxes around, and it turns out that carpet guys like moving tons of little items even less than they like moving big furniture. So our moving the big furniture had not actually accomplished much, in their view. So we will spend this evening sitting up in the old master bedroom, throwing things into boxes and piles to be moved to storage, thrown away, or moved to the middle of the front hallway to be in the way for the next couple of months. And then Wednesday evening we will do the same for the spare bedroom, and Thursday for the hallway (which is, for those of you who don't know, the size of most people's bedrooms, being 12' by 15' with its own closet - quite a hallway!). And then the weekend to catch whatever we missed, and the carpet people come back next Monday. And then, finally, we are ready.
The critters are mildly perturbed, except for Pickle, who is quite upset. Gizmo's main issue is he's not getting much floor time. However, I think we have stuff safely enough arranged so that we'll be able to let him out each evening. I think. The Puffles are a bit grumpy at their new cage. Fern likes her new cage. The piggles don't care, as long as they get fed. The Beak - well, it's hard to tell if he's upset, because he's always shrieking. His cage hasn't been scrubbed down yet, gotta do that - he'll actually be out in the living room when the house is being shown, so it's gotta be like new. Fern is going to board at Jan's; Gizmo and two of the piggies are going to board at Teresa's. Gotta find someone to take the other two pairs of pigs. If we get it down to just the Puffles (the lop-eared rabbit pair), the chins, the bird, and the cat, I think our real estate agent won't freak out TOTALLY. I think.

Having successfully avoided grading quizzes so far this session of office hours, I believe I can safely log off now.
