OK, [livejournal.com profile] landley picked up the sofa and bookcases he and [livejournal.com profile] fadethecat are taking. There was not TOO much bloodshed involved in getting stuff down the stairs, although it nearly came to bloodshed via pocketknives over the proper way to tie knots in a pickup truck. This makes much more room for me to move stuff around as I pack. And our tenant has a place to move to next week, so we are on target so far!!

We had supper with [livejournal.com profile] the_curmudgn and family last night. S makes a mean chicken and dumplings! And asparagus, which he and I are the only people who like, so we had it all to ourselves, what a pity ;) I brought salad, in which I included grape tomatoes, which Miss M informed me were "extremely delicious." She is quite proud of her rapidly expanding vocabulary. I gave her one of our stuffed animals - we really don't need to cart every single stuffed animal we own 1600 miles, and this particular rabbit came down here from Boston and has been sitting on various shelves for nearly 28 years, he needed more love. So she now has Benjamin Bunny, whom she proceeded to take to bed with her - cute! That leaves us with, let's see, my stuffed dinosaurs and guinea pigs and hedgehogs and an echidna and a wombat and a blue hippo, and Spouse's stuffed cats and penguins and a small tiger and the ring-tailed lemur and giant south american anteater, oh, and the plush lobster, two plush bats, a pterodactyl, three Cthulhus, and of course the Giant Microbes. That's quite enough stuffed toys for two people, wouldn't you say?

I've got two people to teach knitting to tomorrow, and one Thursday; am still waiting to hear from a fourth who said they were interested, from the afghan raffle at St. Ed's. Whee!

How close is moving day? (Still hoping we can manage a drive-by cuppa joe when you go through Little Rock.)

June sometime. House goes on market April 1-ish (depending on how fast we do the fix-up); Semester ends May 12 and grades have to be in by May 15, so that's the absolute earliest we'd leave, if we could close on the house the minute I finish grading final exams. No house in Travis Heights has taken over 90 days to sell in ages; most take less than 60, so we figure if it's on the market April 1, the latest we'll be here is June 30. So that's our window.

We'll know a lot more the minute the house goes on the market; if we are correct in the pricing and advertising, someone like us will come along, see the features, and say OK, this is my house, and we'll have an offer inside a week. That is not unthinkable, though we're not counting on it; there have been several houses in Travis Heights that have sold that fast in the past year.

Our expected route, complete with van full of chinchillas, bunny rabbits, and guinea pigs, will be roughly Austin-Dallas-Little Rock-Memphis-Nashville-Asheville-Raleigh-Richmond-Baltimore. How early we get started on the first day will determine whether Little Rock is late lunch, early supper, or overnight stop. I'd like to get to Memphis that first night, but I don't know if we can do that with two vehicles, 4 people needing rest stops, and all the critters to soothe and keep happy. At least we know of entire chains of motels that are animal-friendly!!
