We have so many Christmas CDs that if we start listening immediately after Thanksgiving, we generally still don't get through all of them by New Year's. (Yes, we're atheists. No, that doesn't interfere in the slightest with our enjoyment of the music.) Anyway, I thought I'd post each day's Christmas CD listening, for any of you thinking of adding to your collections.

So here's yesterday's (today's will be posted later tonight):

Chris Isaak - Christmas. Slightly rockabilly-flavored pop. Mostly secular. Several original songs by Isaak. A very nice rendition of Willy Nelson's "Pretty Paper." A version of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" that seemed like the words were slightly shuffled from what I remember, and that made [livejournal.com profile] squirrel_magnet wonder why Santa wasn't working for Homeland Security.

Peter, Paul & Mary - A Holiday Celebration. This one's a classic by now. Includes a couple of good Chanukah songs. Ends with "Blowin' in the Wind" which has nothing to do with Christmas and everything to do with peace. The line, "How many deaths will it take till he knows, that too many people have died?" brings tears to my eyes - slightly of anger, at the Current Occupant's senseless war. Anyway, this is one of my favorite albums.

Matt, will you please email me your address, bah humbug or no? Surely you want a nice lethal stingray to not hang on your nonexistent christmas tree.

I, for one, am happy for you to share!

Today, I tuned my iTunes strictly to holiday and was amazed to think
that everything sounded the same.....so I did some investigating and discovered that I only had 4 albums therein. So I've been busily downloading others.

Not nearly as many as yours; alas....but my family thinks that the
18 I do have are entirely tooooo many.

My heart is gladdened to think that there is equipment on the market
this year that will convert albums to CDs. IF that is the case, and
I am reading correctly the description, then I want one for Christmas.
Then I can record all those fabulous Firestone albums from my youth.
Would you like copies?

I, too, am athieist. I consider Christmas music primarily classical &
folk as opposed to strictly hymns. I have no problem with Jesus Christ.
It is his fan club that often upsets me.
Holiday smiles!

P.S. What happened to your novel? I was enjoying it, but found some of the background information to be a bit tedious....but figured that it was due to my lack of experience in the sci-fi genre.

18 albums? We have listened to that many already since Turkey Day! Last time I counted, we had about 125, but we've purchased several and received several more as gifts since then.

I too would love a piece of equipment that converts albums to CDs, if it were affordable.

The novel will continue soon - I've been busy, but any minute now Keek'k will be attending a performance of one of the Guinea Pig operettas, we will meet Keek'k's boss, and we'll have a transcription of one of the broadcasts from the ship that's currently returning from Saturn.
