Band concert and stuff
Dec. 14th, 2006 12:46 amThe Baltimore Symphonic Band played concerts two nights in a row - Tuesday at another of those enormous retirement communities, this time here in Catonsville, and then Wednesday at Spring Grove State Hospital, also here in Catonsville. Now, those of my flist not in the USA may not be aware that almost every hospital that is called a "state hospital" is a polite name for government-run long-term psychiatric hospital. Soooo, the audience was a little bit eccentric. But they were quite enthusiastic, and some of them even got the conductor's corny jokes. They clapped loudly; Santa Claus and a couple of elves also appeared, and the residents got candy and juice boxes. And the hospital fed the band supper afterward, in their fancy private dining room, complete with tablecloths and linen napkins.
squirrel_magnet and I sat at a table with some of the clarinet section, including a young woman who turns out to have pet guinea pigs, read science fiction and go to cons, and has just started getting into vampire novels. So we may have another potential victim for our endless enthusiasms for various books and events!!
Also, don't forget to fill my Christmas stocking!
Now let's hope for nice weather on Thursday; I want to get on the bike and ride.
