Before I spend a lot of time researching it myself, let me ask whether any of you know how/have any experience with, ordering from Amazon.de. I had mentioned the Freddy books, children's books I want to read in the original German; there doesn't seem to be any way to get them through regular US Amazon. If someone knows a way I can get US Amazon to get me the German versions, that would be another option. But will Amazon.de ship to the USA? Is it exorbitantly expensive?

I don't know about Amazon.de, but the spouse orders stuff from Amazon.fr fairly regularly. He can't recall the shipping costs right now (and his email isn't up at the moment) but he doesn't think it's too bad (his guess was $20 shipping for $100 in books, but that's not really incredibly helpful, is it?) So, not an amount I'd want to pay all the time, but not bad for a special occasion (or book addict). He also reminds me that your credit card company will charge about 3% to convert it into Euros. But it's really pretty straightforward - doesn't even take all that long to arrive.

Thanks! I imagine that the German site would be at least as cooperative as the French :D

The Canadian Amazon site says...........

.......they can ship to any address in the world. the US site says likewise. SO I would be suprised if the German site were restricted to only shipping domestically or in Europe.

If you go the Amazon.de site, go to the centre of the bottom of the front page, there shoulde be a link there ot their shipping information and if you click on it you can see if they make the same promise...assuming you read German well.

Thanks! I read German much better than I speak it; I am just really lazy and wanted to see if someone else could tell me what to do :-)
