How Can We Keep From Singing - Joan Oliver Goldsmith - combination of memoir and description of what it's like to be a dedicated amateur musician, in this case, a singer with the Minnesota Chorale, an "amateur" group that performs with major symphony orchestras - in other words, something similar to being an amateur community band, but one that happens to be one of the best. Nothing heavyweight here, no dramatic insights, but anyone who is dedicated enough to their hobby that you sometimes feel "this is the only thing saving my life right now" would enjoy reading this.

Re-reading a bunch of Bill Crider's Sheriff Dan Rhodes mysteries - nothing special, cute Texas setting and mildly humorous, good for a light fast lunchtime read.

Reading in spurts John McPhee's Uncommon Carriers. McPhee makes anything and everything sound interesting. Further details on this one as I get into it.

Managed to play sax at rehearsal tonight - tenor sax, anyway. Took a little bit of contorting myself to get comfortable, and the contortions made it difficult to watch the conductor enough. But I got through it. Tonight was Bel Air; tomorrow night is Baltimore, and we'll see whether they need me on tenor or bari; hope it's tenor - I could use another light day before I try the bari on Wednesday at MV.
