I tried to write a narrative post, but everything I could think of came out sounding sententious. So instead I'll just mention more reading:
Charles Stross' Glasshouse, for which I have just posted a review on Amazon - I couldn't believe that 12 people before me had written reviews, and not ONE of them mentioned Cordwainer Smith! One of the main ideas in Glasshouse is the danger of forgetting one's history, and yet, all these reviewers seem entirely unaware of science fiction history any further back than maybe Star Wars.
I've also submitted a review of Haddam's Hardscrabble Road to Amazon, but it hasn't been posted yet.
Tomorrow: selling soda as fundraiser for Bel Air Community Band. Only reading I'm likely to get done is the newspaper.
