The rain has downed our DSL since Friday

bunrabFor some reason, our DSL goes out during particularly heavy rains. So this time, it's been out since Friday afternoon. Which is why no one has heard from me. I am currently using one of the time slots on a library computer, which gives me enough time to deal with the most urgent email and to let you all know what's up.
Meanwhile, at home with no computers, I am catching up on reading and doing much crocheting.
Reading:
Still looking at authors recommended by that literature-map site, I found a couple more. A fantasy author, Katya Riemann. OK writer, just not my sort of thing. It's the sort of fantasy with cruel royalty and hedge witches and not a single jot of humor anywhere. It's not bad, it's just not the sort of thing I like. I imagine that many people who like Lois McMasters Bujold's Chalion series would like this particular book by Riemann; it's sort of a similar setting. I've read the Chalion books because I love Bujold's writing, rather than because I like that type of fantasy, but I can sort of tell what the fantasy is like, too. If that makes any sense. So anyway, many of you might want to check out Riemann.
And then based on liking romance writer Mary Balogh, one of the names that popped up was Beth Gutcheon; I found her Five Fortunes and enjoyed it. It's not a romance, it's not precisely "chick lit" - it's just a decent novel about five women whose lives intersect at a spa. Includes a fat teenager, a widow with several young kids, stuff like that - not the hip singles doing a lot of shopping or butt-ogling that occurs in chick lit. While I wouldn't pay money to buy a fairly ordinary book like this, since it's not in a genre I collect, it was a good enough read from the library that if I run across more of her stuff in the library I'll probably give it a look-see.
