Assortedness
Jun. 5th, 2006 03:01 amThe bunny formerly known as Buster/Buttercup is now named Farfalle - pronounced Fahr-FAHL-ə (if you couldn't read that last character, it's a "schwa" also represent in English vaguely by the sound "uh" - I don't know if that's any help to the rest of you.) Anyway, she'll probably get called Folly or Furfle or Furfle-Wurfle most of the time.
My sister in law Jen just had her baby Friday. That makes 37 nieces and nephews now. Mother and baby are doing fine.
Had fun up at my sister's on Saturday. Gave Ian another loom, a very cheap placemat-sized rigid-heddle loom; it's sort of scary how fast he picks up new techniques. He was nearly a quarter finished with a placemat when we left - using the SIX POUNDS of cotton yarn I also gave him, a deal I had gotten on eBay a few years ago and never gotten around to using.
Recent reading:
The Price of Silence by Kate Wilhelm - not one of her regular series characters; as is usual with Wilhelm's mysteries, there's arson involved. There's also a bit more psychic stuff than her usual, although there's always been a small supernatural element in the Constance and Charlie stories.
Heroics for Beginners by John Moore - lightweight fantasy, silly and pointless but with clever and amusing bits. Certainly no Terry Pratchett. But, considering it was from the library, it was an enjoyable free read. Wouldn't have paid money for it.
Ten Little Bloodhounds by Virginia Lanier - part of a series I haven't read the rest of, just wanted to try one. Oddly, although there are gaping holes in logic, a warped view of feminism that makes me suspect Lanier is a pseudonym for a male, and poor copy editing that resulted in one character's name changing between Rand and Brad pretty randomly, and another character was Tim until he was Tom, I nonetheless enjoyed the book. Wouldn't pay money for it, but if the library has more, I'll read them, unless the illogical parts become too annoying.
