my email was down for a few days

Hey, if anyone's been trying to reach me by email, it was down for a couple of days - my domain-hosting service had a screw-up, and the entire domain of bunrab dot net was down for over 48 hours. It's back up at the moment, and I am in the process of finding a more reliable hosting service so that this won't happen again. Meanwhile, if you emailed me at any bunrab dot net address anytime from Monday afternoon on, please resend that mail now.

It's not the first time that the email has been out - the server for that has gone out several times in the past year, usually only for about 12 hours at a time, but the entire thing had never disappeared before, and certainly not for this long. If anyone is ever tempted to try "Host Excellence," don't - in my experience, they suck. Further details of their suckage provided upon request.

I strongly recommend fatcow.com, which I use. Ya can't beat 'em for features-for-price (which, incidentally, is quite cheap), and I haven't had any real quarrel with their uptime. Getting the attention of their support people is once in a while a challenge, but just being your own assertive self will readily smoosh them into submission. If you do choose them, mention curmudgn.net as your referrer 'cos I get free weeks of hosting for referrals.

Hi! Thanks for the recommendation. I had already found another one, but if it doesn't work out, I'll try yours next. I found SmartLogic, which seems to be related to Tucows somehow; I chose them because while I was browsing potential hosters, I clicked the 24-hour helpdesk button to ask a few questions and had a real person who spoke real English chatting with me in about 30 seconds, and actually answering the questions I asked, not reciting a list of set answers from a FAQ. That struck me as a good omen.
