1. I learned to read when I was three and a half.
2. I can read in moving vehicles with no problems.
3. I always have a book in a pocket or tote bag with me - one never knows when one's going to have to wait in line somewhere.
4. I found it very frustrating when we were showing our old house for sale, that our real estate agent wouldn't allow us to leave our usual stack of books and magazines in the bathroom; reading in the bathroom is one of life's great pleasures.
5. I have never been able to read all the way through Moby-Dick or anything else Herman Melville wrote.
6. I enjoy reading trashy historical romances, specifically Regency romances.
7. At least I've never gone so far as to buy a romance in hardcover!
8. I do not know whether, over the years, I've given more Christmas presents that were books, or handmade (knitted, crocheted, or woven) scarves. It's probably a close call.
9. I still have a book I was given as a present when I was 6. It's about New York City - sort of a kids-eye tourist book.
10. I don't remember the first science fiction book I ever read, because my memories aren't that all clear from that far back - I know I was already reading juvie SF in first grade, and by 4th grade was reading regular grown-up SF from the library, and had a subscription to a science fiction magazine. The first SF book I can clearly remember was about the Mushroom People - was it Planet of the Mushroom People or Visit to the Mushroom Planet? I don't remember. I had read other SF before then, that's just the earliest one I can really recall.
11. I occasionally sell used books on Amazon.com - mostly old grad school textbooks and required reading that I'm pretty sure I'll never get around to again.
12. I read my entire first-grade reading series - the Little Green Book, the Little Red Book, etc., through "The Little White Book" - the first week of school. (The rest of the year, I spent the time the class was having reading sessions reading the third and fourth grade Weekly Readers and various library books.)
13. I can't name any one book as my favorite book. There are too many of them, and I like them for different reasons, and different moods. I could probably narrow down a list of, say, my hundred favorite books - things I would be willing to re-read no matter what my mood - but it would be difficult, and I'd probably have to reread a couple thousand books to be sure I was picking the correct hundred.
14. I've only read *all* the way through Lord of the Rings three times in 40 years. I just am not that fond of fantasy.
15. Yes, I have sometimes bought a book intending it as a present for a friend, and then decided I had to keep it for myself. Guilty.
