Verizon's not much better.
Comcast totally screwed up the installation of our cable, both TV and broadband. So we are still waiting on them to fix the TV, and we cancelled the cable broadband and called Verizon for DSL. Which they tell us we will have no later than Nov. 8. (!!!!! All they have to do is flip a freakin' switch!!!!)
So I've got a 3-month cheap trial of a dial-up service, so at least I can check my email regularly. Just don't expect me to visit web sites w/ lots of pictures or Flash or anything fancy.
We got our early-60's china cabinet delivered today; it matches the house nicely. We got the big bookcase reassembled Tuesday, a real adventure in maneuvering. It's a hair under 8' tall by a hair under 8' wide. The dining room back wall is the only wall in the house wide and tall enough without a window or baseboard heating. And the dining room itself is 8'2" wide by about 12' long, so it takes a LOT of careful sequencing to put together something that large and then stand it upright against the wall. The little LED flashlight gadgets I bought proved useful, especially the ones that fasten on to the temple-pieces of one's glasses. The dining room has only a small single light fixture. Replacing that with a ceiling fan and larger light fixture is pretty high on our list of things to do, along with putting another light switch in the kitchen, converting a whole bunch of old 2-prong unpolarized outlets to grounded 3-prong outlets, and a few things changed in the bathroom. But generally the house is livable. We have the computers on the dining table, just like Austin. We have room to sit on the sofa and on the armchair, and almost enough light to read by. We can find much of our clothing again, though all of it needs washing. We have not yet located the iced tea glasses or our medium-size pots and pans. Slowly but surely, though.
