I really hate Microsoft Access
Mar. 28th, 2005 02:15 pmEven as Microsoft applications go, it's pretty icky. Given that I have to teach it for a few weeks, in the middle of my Excel class, I try not to let this attitude show. But... I really hate Access. The menus are not entirely consistent with other Office apps. It uses a different version of VBA than other Office apps. The design of Design View sucks - not intuitive at all. The names they give the properties in the Properties box are not intuitive to business majors, either; they make sense to computer geeks, but hey, you geeks, you aren't the end users of this product!! And what weird fit took on someone who decided that to enter numbers with decimals, you have to set the field type as "Double" not "Decimal"?? What is WRONG with you people???
Okay. Calm down. Think of chinchillas, and tea, and cookies.
We had
landley and
fadethecat over for supper Friday, and then Mensa Games Night was Saturday, with the result that our dining table is actually pretty clear for a change. However, now we really have to start getting excess furniture out of the house, which is still way too cluttered to list for sale. So next up is moving the sofa and end table that are in the foyer, to the storage unit, which will require more people than just me and Spouse, because we are not large, muscular people, or even average size, halfway fit, people - we are shortish, middle-aged, out-of-shape. The idea is to empty the foyer, mostly, except for the two display etageres, and then move some of the excessive stuff from the dining room and library into there. After, of course, the painters repaint it.
The painters are currently doing the outside of the house. They started last week. This morning, when I went to go out the door, I discovered that it had been sealed with plastic; I had to get one of the guys to slit it open and let me out! The colors are coming out nicely, the scraping off of old paint has improved the surface greatly, and the replacing of the rotted out fascia has helped no end. The place will look really spiffy a couple weeks from now!
Meantime, though, I have to park the bike in the driveway, rather than on the back porch, which means the bike gets all pollened all over. There are far too many things pollenating right now! Bleah.
