Got one more class today. Gave quiz to 11:00 class, and will be giving exam to 1:00 class. I'm so mean, to make them actually come to school on the last day before spring break - but I ask them, when will you remember more of this stuff, now, or the Monday after spring break? When I put it like that, they sigh and finish their exam...
Another way I can tell it's spring is allergies. Singulair controls the respiratory part of the allergies quite well - not a cough or a sneeze in sight - but it doesn't stop the eyes from getting crudded up, nor my skin from getting its seasonal eczema. Yuck.
In general, the packing is going well. We have about 60 boxes in the storage unit now, and 4 bookcases. We rented Shurgard's truck for an afternoon to carry the bookcases. (What, we were gonna carry them on the bikes?) We only moved the 3/4 height ones - the four foot tall kind - because I am not much good for lifting things, so full-size bookcases are not doable without outside help. (see
fadethecat's earlier post about the Steves and the Rope Incident) Our tenant is moved out, and wonder of wonders, he scrubbed his bathtub completely clean! So the painters start midweek next week on those rooms, and should be able to them in a couple days. Then we'll be ready to tackle the upstairs!! Whee! But I don't think we're gonna be ready by April 1. April 15 is more likely. So I had better email Winona (our real estate agent, who is Spouse's second cousin twice removed).
Let's see, I ought to say something interesting so this post won't be all grumbling. How about some crochet? I've mentioned that St. Ed's started up a group to make afghans for Warm Up America, right? And I've been contributing regularly. We made one afghan color-coordinated and raffled it off to raise money for Safeplace and to buy more yarn. The plan is to do the same again in the fall, aiming for Founder's Day (a St. Ed's holiday), so the afghan should be blue and gold, our school colors. Well, I'll be gone from Austin by then, but I decided to leave with a farewell gift for them: at the end of this semester I will contribute 50 (at least) blue and gold blocks for that afghan. Should be able to get myself in the alumni magazine complete with a picture for that! I haven't told them I'm going to do this, it will be a surprise. So I've got 10 blocks done, including single-color blocks in blue and in gold, and a couple of ones with blue and gold stripes, and a couple with SEU worked in yellow against a blue background. I did that without a pattern, and they came out pretty good, if I say so myself. Next week I should be able to get a lot of crocheting done, if I do a block every time I get tired of packing!
My entire other plans for spring break include: get an oil change and a tune-up for the bike. That's it. That's my exciting week. So if any of you out there want to invite me to lunch or an afternoon of doing something fun or intelligent or both, now's your chance!!
I can't believe they don't have "perky" on the list of pre-set moods!!
