The concert we're supposed to play this afternoon has been cancelled; I'm not sure exactly how much snow there is out there in Montgomery County but here in Baltimore it's just over a foot, according to S's measurements in our front yard. Remarkably, our street has just been plowed, at 11 a.m., even though we are a little nowhere street. However, our driveway won't be shoveled any time soon, since we had not yet gotten around to purchasing a snow shovel. Perhaps S shall have to walk over to Lowe's and get one, along with some sand/salt/de-icer. (We use clumping kitty litter for Pickle Underfoot, so we don't have the traditional clay kitty litter to spread.)

I had woken up at about 4 a.m. and was unable to get back to sleep for a bit, so I exchanged comments with various other insomniac LJers, played a few games, and knit a few rows on the current sock. I had started this sock Thursday evening, in preparation for a class in an alternate sock heel method on Friday evening. I like the heel - garter stitch, short rows - and finished that Friday night after class, and now am halfway down the foot. Finally went back to bed at 6 a.m. S had, of course, stolen all the covers, and winning them back inch by inch was a struggle.

Given the snow, I may finish that sock and start the second one this afternoon. But first, I am going back to bed for a little nap.

A peaceful and quiet Darwin Day to everyone.

This is the soundtrack to a 1984 movie. It's definitely Rick Wakeman, although the addition of a saxophone isn't the usual 1980's Wakeman. But what I had totally forgotten about this album/score, is that it's based almost entirely on Dvorak's New World Symphony. With a few other Dvorak fragments thrown in. Now I shall have to listen to a whole bunch of Wakeman and Emerson, as I am all over again enamoured of classically trained rock keyboardists.

[snivel]So few of you have filled in my Johari window. [/snivel] Clearly, I have too much time on my hands if I am worried about this. Just taking a break from sock, actually - can only do 15 rows or so before my fingers need a short rest. Next burst should take me right through the toe and to cast-off; I am feeling lazy enough that I may forgo Kitchener stitch and do a plain graft.
