Another offer shot down the drain. We offered $10K more than the asking price on that house, but someone else offered even more than that. Back to househunting.
It occurs to me that since I'm reading so much, sitting around here, I should probably keep track. So:
last week I read Kage Baker's Mother Aegypt and other Stories and finished John McWhorter's The Power of Babel (Chas, I'm getting you a copy of that for your birthday, if I can find a used one in good condition or it comes out in paperback...) and I forget what-all else I read. Yesterday I finished up The Best of the Best which is selections from 20 years' worth of the Year's Best Science Fiction collections. Today I should finish up Sex, Lies and Vampires (a fantasy romance farce) by Katie MacAlister, and start in on Richard Dawkins' The Ancestor's Tale. And a handful of magazines.
And tomorrow we'll look at more houses. Bleah.
