Ugh. Depressed.
Things very subdued at school, both faculty and students - no one's real happy with the elections.
Band rehearsal tonight was fun - we played loud music and nobody mentioned a single damn word about politics.
Now to figure out what to do. Spousal Unit and I have been planning for a long time that when we retire it would be to either CA or MD; both are blue states, and now we're thinking seriously about moving up the retirement/moving date. The catch is SU's dad, who has lived in TX all his life and turns 90 this month; he probably won't want to move, and we hate to leave him all alone here. At his age, politics doesn't affect him much; he's got excellent retirement benefits and all, not dependent on social security or medicare altho he has them, so whatever the repubs do to social security and medicare won't hurt him. So he's got less to lose by staying in a red state than we do. So we have to think about that. But we spent an hour this evening discussing what we have to start doing if we really want to move, and laying out plans for things to check on over the next month or so. Moving to another country really isn't an option right now, but moving to a blue state could be, and if this country falls apart, I want to be in one of the parts I'll be comfortable in when it does. That would seem to be west coast or the northeast, I guess. Sigh. I hate having to think like this.
