Mushrooms and Guillotine
Aug. 29th, 2004 01:34 amSo we had a couple friends over for supper, which was pasta and mushrooms (I'd say spaghetti, but it was actually radiatore, a shape that holds a lot more yummy sauce and cheese than spaghetti does.) and some homemade ice cream. Then we played a couple games of Guillotine. A non-computer game, I know that's a novel idea to many people!
These were "guinea pig friends" from out of the assorted categories we hang with, so we of course spent a certain amount of time upstairs, cuddling Bob the Blob, and giving the chinchillas a dust bath, which even after all these years is still one of the funniest things to watch, ever.
I found some parmesan cheese at Central Market that had less sodium per serving than what I usually see, so we had parmesan on the pasta. I picked up some low-sodium fresh mozzarella, too, for anticipated macaroni and cheese sometime this coming week. I got sliced "Baby Bella" mushrooms, which even though they are the same damn species as regular white button mushrooms, somehow taste a little richer and juicier. Pretty much whenever we have "spaghetti" I saute mushrooms in olive oil to add to whatever the sauce is.
For the first few times we ever tried feeding Rocky and Boots dried cranberries, Rocky ignored them, although Boots loved them from the get-go. After a while, he suddenly decided he liked them, though, and now Rocky lunges at one's fingers like a moray eel lunging out of its cave to snatch its prey. He's as bad as Gizmo bunny, like to take off a finger of the unwary cranberry-holder. I think I'll start using tongs...
