I am still searching for the best way to actually include the medical alert "logo" and brief info on a "bead" in bracelets. Tried printing them out on labels, sticking them on a flat bead, and then coating with clear plastic, but that doesn't seem to sufficiently hold on the label or keep it scratchproof. Plus large flat glass beads are expensive, at 75 cents or so each. So my next idea is brass mending plates, tiny ones, say 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch. However, I can't find any that small in the big box stores. So I bought some hinges the correct size, to see if I could cut off the hinge part, which would leave me with exactly the little plate with two holes in it that I want. But the batteries for my clone-of-a-Dremel had discharged, so I have to wait and recharge them, to see if the circular "saw" cutter bit will cut the hinges off, and then use a grinding stone bit to get rid of any rough bits from the cutting. If that works, it's a possible approach, since a package of 1x1 brass hinges at about $2.50 including tax would be less than 35 cents per piece, which is more reasonable to put in everything. I am still going to search for tiny mending plates, though. If this idea doesn't work, next idea is to get acrylic disks, and then get holes drill-pressed into them. Will wait to price out that idea till I see whether this one works. Anyway, an excuse to play around. Gotta find the vice grips, too - the metal is going to get HOT trying to cut it, rather not hold that in my hand, and rather avoid cutting my fingernails off with a bit of finger. I am normally sorta slapdash about things, other than eye protection which I am a fanatic about, but even I can see that the metal cutting blade on a piece of something only half an inch wide would have a fairly large risk of coming way nearer my finger than I'd like. In my life, I have so far managed to avoid cutting off any flesh with rotary cutters, but why push my luck? OK, list: find vice grips. Come to think of it, pull out bench, why hold any of this by hand? Look in yellow pages for plastics dealers. Look up plastics info on Google. Um, what am I forgetting? At least I know there's a market for these - everyone who's seen my prototypes, albeit they don't have my final version of the medical tag yet, likes the jewelry and would pay for such a bracelet even if they didn't need the medical tag aspect. C'mon, bunrab, get your ass in gear.

momentary digression: what is it with comic strip characters? Beetle Bailey never had eyes; Cathy has no nose, Dilbert has no mouth. I bet that's why Doonesbury's BD is so cheerful so far despite having lost a leg - at least he has all his face in all the right places!

And Spousal Unit is busy writing a cranky letter to the editor about the ruling that frozen, battered french fries are a "fresh vegetable." Clearly, we're both having cranky geezer moments!
