bunrab: (bathtub warning)

The faintly scratchy throat I felt yesterday on the drive home has turned into a cold. Luckily, while we were stopping at supermarkets looking for Diet Cherry 7-Up, I bought zinc lozenges, vitamin C tablets, and cough drops, and started taking them all immediately; the zinc is doing its usual decent job of making the symptoms less severe, such that I can cope. You may recall that I can't take pseudoephedrine, regardless of its OTC/behind-the-counter status, because it's bad for my heart; not being able to take decongestants does make dealing with colds a bit harder. However, I'm keeping my nose unstuffed enough that I don't foresee a problem playing tomorrow night's concert.

We are doing a mild bit of house-neatening in anticipation of Cindy's arrival for a week's visit, from Austin, which will include going down to DC for some touristing, as well as dragging her to one of our concerts.

While I think of it, [livejournal.com profile] fadethecat and [livejournal.com profile] landley also need a serving platter and a set of serving utensils, you know, the large spoon and large salad fork thingies. They wouldn't necessarily think so, but they do. So those of you plotting xmas/holiday gifts, add this to the list from the earlier post. (We got them potholders while we were there; we seem to supply some or another household item each time we visit...)

Staying with other people also makes me muse on how different people's concepts of "comfortable" are. Now, it's not just R&F - I have been living with [livejournal.com profile] squirrel_magnet for over 21 years now, and I still don't understand why he didn't convert to using bath sheets instead of teensy bath towels the minute I introduced him to them. But he hasn't, he still prefers regular bath towels even though large bath sheets are obviously superior and he can afford them. So, although I don't understand, I acknowledge his right to continue not to use them. OTOH, when he introduced me to hard-milled soap, I took to it right away, and that's all we've used for years. So that was one of the things that got me musing; R&F use cheap soap, as do most people. Expensive soap isn't THAT all expensive, but somehow a lot of people don't seem interested in using good soap that lasts longer. Why isn't it obvious to everyone?? Why doesn't everyone have a large fluffy bath mat exactly like ours?? Does anyone else besides me ever wonder about these sort of things? Do you have some item that you have found so wonderful and useful that you can't understand why everyone you know didn't convert to using it the minute you told them about it?

You're not the only one who wonders. :)

Hope the zinc knocks the cold out soon.
