Meandering
Nov. 16th, 2006 02:37 amRoads, that is. Our Wednesday night rehearsal had to be switched at the last minute from the high school in Montgomery Village over to Gaithersburg Middle School in Gaithersburg (about 3 miles away). The high school is notoriously flaky about stuff like that; we wind up at GMS instead about 1 out of every 3 times we're supposed to be at the high school. (Our normal rehearsals are at a community center, but on the third Wed. of each month, another group has the community center, so we have the high school as our normal third wednesday spot.) Anyway, it takes a lot more local and side roads to get to GMS than to our usual rehearsal spots, and some of the roads are peculiar. There's one on which every other building is a church of some sort, most of them with most of their signs in Chinese or Korean, the name of the church often the only thing in English on the sign. There's one building along there that isn't a church, though; Word of Faith is, and I quote, "Word of Faith Worship Center, Inc." I guess being a church wasn't good enough for them.
No rehearsal next Wednesday, and the Wednesday after that, the 29th, is the dress rehearsal for the December 3 concert.
Accomplished only newspaper and magazine reading today, no books, and almost no crocheting either. I did, however, get all the bunny litter boxes and both guinea pig cages cleaned.
squirrel_magnet had some people over to clean the gutters, and he started raking up leaves, so we have several bags of gar-bage for the morning pickup. The gutter-cleaner handyman types are coming back Thursday morning to do some minor repairs to the deck. There are other things on our house to-do list, including getting the awning off the front bedroom window so the critters get more sunlight, sweeping off the porch, and getting a tarp on the air conditioner central unit for the winter - those things fall in the we-do-it-ourselves category. In the more serious category, figuring out the best way to stop water from getting in the basement; I think changing the slope of the front yard and putting a "french drain" along a small portion of the front will take care of it without ripping up anything on the inside. We shall see.
More decaf tea needed, or something cold to sip, anyway. Rehearsal three nights running = dry throat! (Especially since all 3 rooms too warm; once the schools turn the a/c off and the heat on for the winter, the fact that it's 70 degrees out in November will not make them turn the heat off or the air back on.)
