Has everyone seen this list?
Things I’ve learned from British folk ballads

And a few things I've learned from American folk songs:

Stay away from railroads. Don't rest by the railroad tracks, cross the tracks, or even live near the tracks where you can hear the whistle blow or the wheels go clickety-clack. It will lead to no good.

Stay away from navigable waterways in America, too. Especially the banks of the Ohio. And stop daydreaming about the Northwest Passage. For that matter, avoid port cities, like New York or Nassau Town. They are trouble.

Avoid peanuts. Maybe one's rotten, maybe the Georgia Militia is trying to sneak up on you, either way it's trouble.

Talking bugs are up to no good. If a bug talks to you, be it weevil, spider, or something else, you're probably going to have to run from something.
