We have named the new hedgie!

Our new hedgehog is Vladimir Herschel Hedgehog. Pictures coming soon. He's 7 weeks old, as cute as any hedgie, still a tad shy, but not at all afraid of Dexter. It's pretty funny watching Dexter try to figure out what to make of him!

The usual Russian nickname for Vladimir is, IIRC, Valadya (alt. sp. Volodya) but we'll probably call him Vlad or Dim (which, one hates to admit, applies to hedgies in general).

You could be all Becketty and call him Didi. ;)

Adorable tiny hedgehog! About how long does it take for hedgehogs to go from wee and adorable to full size and adorable?

In about 6 months he'll reach full length, but he'll have another couple months of filling out, so full weight is reached somewhere between 9 months and a year, depending on hedgie, diet, and random factors we don't know. (They've only been domestic pets for about 20 years; there's a LOT that's still being found out about what is a "normal" life for a hedgie. Add in that they are a hybrid of a couple of different African species, and sometimes more features of one of their ancestors comes out than the other, and you can't predict which... but by 1 year he'll definitely be grown. Right now, he's soooo cute.

The usual Russian nickname would be either "Volodya" or "Vova".
